Three Ways to Make Back to School Less Stressful

I love back to school season. And not because the kids go back to school but I love the fresh start, autumn around the corner, school supplies and new clothes. But... it can be a little hectic. Summer never seems long enough so everyone is rushing to buy back to school outfits and supplies at the last minute. Everything on your supply list seems to be sold out. And you're not sure if you are supposed to get your stepkid a new backpack or if biomom is planning on that. Here are three ways … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Stepmoms (School)

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 All throughout elementary school we'd hear how great T was at participating and answering questions when asked but that he always needed to be reminded to get his work out or stay on task. School Options

T is so smart. I'm not just saying that because I'm his (step)mom. He really is sharp. He just makes poor choices (like not turning in his already completed class assignment or not doing his homework). He has always gone to public school. Where’s the Balance?

Being half of the "not fun" parenting team as opposed to the other parent who is the "Disneyland mom" really sucks sometimes*. Like when he asks to spend the weekend over there instead of with us. I promise I try not to be overbearing. I don't follow him around the house or anything. Quite the opposite! He hangs out with me and wants me to do whatever he is doing. But my husband and I are the ones that of we check his work and he has done a poor job, we ask him to do it again. We might even … [Read more...]

Open House

It's official. I'm old. T had open house at school tonight. Holy cow! He's only got a few weeks of 7th grade left. Seriously. Where did the time go? The way open house works at his middle school is the kids are scheduled by last name into three time slots. We are near the end of the alphabet so we were in the last group. His poor home room teacher had been there all night and not one family showed up before us! The evening went like this: T and I walk to school. Hubby plans to meet us … [Read more...]
