Three Ways to Make Back to School Less Stressful

I love back to school season. And not because the kids go back to school but I love the fresh start, autumn around the corner, school supplies and new clothes. But... it can be a little hectic. Summer never seems long enough so everyone is rushing to buy back to school outfits and supplies at the last minute. Everything on your supply list seems to be sold out. And you're not sure if you are supposed to get your stepkid a new backpack or if biomom is planning on that. Here are three ways … [Read more...]

2 Ways to be Present with Your Kids

Couple of days ago T was playing with the indoor basketball hoop (that is actually the baby's but that's another story 😊) and he turned to me and said "where's the ball?" You guys, I spent probably a good five minutes looking for the ball before I turned around and looked at him. You know where the ball was? Under his shirt! T thought it was hilarious that he tricked me. I felt bad. Really bad. If I had just stopped and really looked at him I would've seen it right away. I was just … [Read more...]

Giving Grace Even When Kids are Grumpy

Do you ever just feel grumpy? Do you forget to say please and thank you? Do you snap at the people you love? Confession: I do. Why is it then when the teenager is grumpy I get so bent out of shape about it? I don't like feeling this way. I need to ask God to change my heart. To help me give T grace. Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19 Rather than get frustrated when he is grumpy, I should listen … [Read more...]

Being Intentional as my Child Learns and Grows

With my little, this season is so much fun. He is learning so much and growing so quickly. This morning s during tummy time, he scooted forward so he could grab a toy that was just out of reach. He was getting his little legs under him and he hadn't done that before. It was very exciting. He loves to read and seriously has since we brought him home from the hospital. At just weeks old he would intently look at the book as we read it him. He'd grab the edges of the book even. Now he starts … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Moms of Littles (Character and Faith)

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 As Christian mamas the one thing we want more than anything is for our littles to grow up to love Jesus. It's our job to teach them about Jesus and encourage them to have a relationship with Him. It's also our job to teach our kids character and help them grow a rock solid faith. We must gently help them to know that while they are not perfect they serve a God who is. Do a few intentional … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Stepmoms (Consistent)

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 You hear how important being consistent with your child is. But it's not easy, is it? It's hard to be consistent with bedtimes, eating healthily and consequences when you're running from homework to the ball field and trying to feed your kiddo at some point before shower and bed. And what if your kid only lives with you part-time? Being consistent while parenting isn't … [Read more...]

Rerun Tuesday: Encouragement

I wrote this post almost two years ago for the same reason I write most posts: because it's what I need to hear myself! One of our biggest worries and fears as moms/stepmoms is that we might be messing up our kids. We question our decisions and actions. I feel like as stepmoms we might second guess ourselves even more. As I wrote in the post from the past: Mamas, you are not messing up your kids. You may mess up now and again but you are not messing up your kids. You are human. You will … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Moms (Write 31 Days)

I'm at a kind of weird season of motherhood. Weird but good. I have a 15 year old stepson and a 5 month old baby boy. It's sort of like starting over but not. I love being a stepmom and I'm loving being a bio-mom. I didn't know I could love like this. I started this blog as a place of encouragement for stepmoms. I'm still a stepmom but I also see a need for encouragement for moms of littles because I sure do! So for the month of October I'm joining the Write 31 Days group and … [Read more...]

Rerun Tuesday: Down Time

From the archives: Down Time   Why is it that it can be so much easier to write about the struggles than it is to write about the good times? Well, I'm going to be intentional in recognizing the good times. Like today, right now T and I are relaxing, hanging out together. I'm reading (and writing this) and he is playing dragonvale, telling me all about his dragons and people visiting his island. I love this time together.   Or last night, my parents took T and me to … [Read more...]

Rerun Tuesday: Family Vacation

From the archives: Family Vacation This was going to be great. Disneyland with my whole family, my not-yet-husband and the boy for five days. So great! I have two nephews both one year younger than T so they were going to have a great time and me and the hubs were going to be the perfect parents on the perfect vacation and we were going to really bond and have such a great time. Except we didn't. Well, I don't want to say we didn't. There were some good times but there were also some … [Read more...]
