Being Intentional as my Child Learns and Grows

With my little, this season is so much fun. He is learning so much and growing so quickly. This morning s during tummy time, he scooted forward so he could grab a toy that was just out of reach. He was getting his little legs under him and he hadn't done that before. It was very exciting. He loves to read and seriously has since we brought him home from the hospital. At just weeks old he would intently look at the book as we read it him. He'd grab the edges of the book even. Now he starts … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Moms of Littles (Growing Up)

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52 Growing up happens so fast. When you're a kid though it seems to take forever! To me it seems like just yesterday my stepson was this funny, easy going little kid who played with legos and now he's this young man with a great sense of humor who loves video games. And my baby how is he five months old? He already has this personality that is larger than life! It's amazing to me that just this time last year we were … [Read more...]

Distance Between Us

Why does it feel like there is this great divide between us? Why do I feel like my boy pushes me away? Does he feel like I do that too? He's 14 now and a freshman in high school. When did that happen?! When I first see T after not having seen him for a week, I feel on guard. I don't know which boy to expect... the funny, talkative one or the quiet, brooding one. I remember being a teen and having all of these emotions I didn't know what to do with. I'd feel happy one minute and so down the next. … [Read more...]

Bad Words

I started cussing in the 7th grade. (Nothing too "bad" and only with my "friends.") I'm not proud of that. I knew Jesus then but I didn't "know" Him. I believed but I didn't follow. Not until a few years ago did I really have a relationship with my God. So at 13 years old, I didn't understand why I shouldn't use foul language. I knew that it wasn't the Christian thing to do but I didn't understand the why... because it wasn't pleasing to God. I now understand that as someone who loves Jesus I … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday

Over 11 years ago, I met a sweet toddler and his parents. We were all camping with mutual friends. The boy and his parents lived just down the street from me and my boyfriend at the time. We should get together I said. Crickets. The parents and I didn't talk much but this cute little boy with his pacifier in his mouth would toddle over to me, hand me his sippy cup, and use my leg/arm to balance as he stood. I didn't see the toddler, T, or his parents for another two years. Nine … [Read more...]

Camp

Two hours! That's how long T gave us a play by play of his time at summer camp. It was awesome to hear how excited he was about everything. In telling M and I his story, he saved the message they heard each night for last. He told about the drama that unfolded each night in the chapel and then get all excited and say "you know what that one was? You don't know? You really don't know?! When Jesus was in the boat and there was a storm and they woke him up. And Jesus said why are you afraid I am … [Read more...]

Open House

It's official. I'm old. T had open house at school tonight. Holy cow! He's only got a few weeks of 7th grade left. Seriously. Where did the time go? The way open house works at his middle school is the kids are scheduled by last name into three time slots. We are near the end of the alphabet so we were in the last group. His poor home room teacher had been there all night and not one family showed up before us! The evening went like this: T and I walk to school. Hubby plans to meet us … [Read more...]
