Five Minute Friday: Release

Release. Let go of the anger, the hurt, the pain. Forgive and forget. Release it all. Let go of the worry and fear. Do not be anxious. Release it all to Him. Take the peace He offers, And be comforted. There is joy in the release. This post is part of Five Minute Friday with Lisa-Jo Baker. Here's how it works... Write for five minutes flat. All on the same prompt posted on Lisa-Jo Baker's blog at one minute past midnight EST every Friday. No extreme editing; no … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Grateful

God. Husband. Stepson. Our family. Friends. Snoring dogs and a playful cat. Home. Cars. (not really the cars specifically or driving but the ability to.) Jobs. Abundance of good food. Liberty. California sunshine. Vacation. Books. Blogs. Music. Church family. Clouds. Ice cream. Funny TV shows. Beach. Coffee. Children. Legos. Laughter. So much to be grateful for and I thank my God everyday for the many blessings he has … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Mess

The laundry is piled high on the futon in the spare room... Again. Who am I kidding?? It's not again because it never left. There is always a massive amount of laundry piled in the spare room aka my office. I'm pretty sure there is a spill on the counter that no one cleaned up and we haven't swept the floors in a week. Oh boy. And the table cloth needs to be changed. Sheets probably do too. Wow. What a mess! Work is hard right now. Stepson relationship tense at times. I'm sure biomom is up to … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Paint

Paint chips are scattered across my desk. We are trying to choose new wall colors at work. I tell my staff, go with your gut. Don't second guess or you will keep doubting and we will never choose! And you know what? We went with our first choices and it looks great! Life can be like that sometimes. As a stepmom, I know I find myself constantly second guessing my choice and doubting my parenting decisions. Do you feel that way too? I believe as long as we parent with love, grace and … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Mighty

When people ask me how I am doing or what's new or how I've been, my answer is almost always the same: busy. I'm busy trying to make everything around me go smoothly. Trying to take charge of my life and my family because I'm scared something will get messed up. I'm actually afraid I will mess it up. I feel weak and unimportant not at all mighty. Do you feel like that too? Remember God is Mighty to save. Isn't that the best news? I don't have to be mighty because I belong to a God who is … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Just Write

If writing is the thing you say you love, then why is it so hard to write at times? It's like putting your heart on a piece of paper. Exposed for the world to see. And to criticize if they so desire. To write is to be vulnerable. It's to share a piece of yourself and risk being hurt. To write is also about sharing a piece of yourself and maybe getting something back. A better understanding of your own thoughts. Maybe a connection with someone else. Maybe your writing will help someone. … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday – Visit

My eight year old self sits in the back seat of our white Chevy Cavalier holding my little suitcase on my lap for the entire  three hour drive... like any minute we will be there and I need to be ready! My parents drive up the 5 and I stare out the window at the passing farm land. I can't wait for this visit. I'm heading to my grandparents house to stay for my two week summer visit and the second week my cousin will be coming up to stay too! What fun we will have. I'll play cards with grandma … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Encouragement

As moms (stepmoms or otherwise), encouragement is something we can never get enough of. Are we doing this mother thing right? Are we messing up our kids? Yikes!  Mamas, you are not messing up your kids. You may mess up now and again but you are not messing up your kids. You are human. You will make mistakes. But you will also do so many more things right. You are present in your child's life. You are trying. That is what is important. You know what else is important? You are a daughter … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: See

We all see things differently. I'm looking as if from above at miles of land or a map laid out in front of me. You may be at ground level looking at one part of the map. Or you might be making your own map. We all see things differently but that doesn't mean we aren't looking at the same thing. It's important to recognize that. It's important to look through another's eyes and see their point of view. We all see things differently and that is beautiful. This post is part of Five Minute … [Read more...]

Five Minute Friday: Reflect (two weeks later…)

Like the still surface of a pond you reflect the best of  him and her and me. I can see a little bit of each of your parents (blood and step) in everything you do. Your sense of humor, your gentle servant heart, your kind and inquisitive nature, your love for your pets and even in the look of confusion that sometimes settles on your sweet face. Your math skills and love of travel and reading. Your love of video games, too. And let's not forget how much you look just like a younger reflection of … [Read more...]
