God is with me

I felt like there was an elephant sitting on my chest and I just couldn't even breathe. I had to walk out of the counseling session because I was about to cry or scream or do something. I don't even know. I was so angry and just did not understand why this was all happening. My husband and I were with my stepson and his biomom at a counseling session and I can't go into details - I don't want to go into details - but it was just all so wrong. I was hurt and I was angry for myself, for my … [Read more...]

It was a rough morning

My shirt is covered with slobber and snot. It was a rough morning. My day didn't start out that way though. It started out pretty good. Baby G was excited to leave the house - wearing his "big-boy" backpack - this morning. It was once we got to school that things took a turn. He wanted to go through the "tunnel" in the car (this means he wants to crawl around his car seat). So, I allowed it for a few minutes. Which of course is never long enough and I should have known better. When I … [Read more...]

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things to do. Yet, we are called to forgive because God forgave us. It's still hard. After all, we are human and we are messed up. Being a stepmom and showing forgiveness your husband's ex is at the top of the list of hard things to do. She probably is hurting or angering your husband on a regular basis and making life difficult. You might even feel like she is selfish and not putting your stepchild first. She might make you mad and you might … [Read more...]

Busy

When people ask me how I am doing or what’s new or how I’ve been, my answer is almost always the same: busy. I’m busy trying to make everything around me go smoothly. Trying to take charge of my life and my family because I’m scared something will get messed up. I’m actually afraid I will mess it up. I feel weak and unimportant not at all mighty. Do you feel like that too? Remember God is Mighty to save. Isn’t that the best news? I don’t have to be mighty because I belong to a … [Read more...]

Life changing

I can think of so many moments that could be considered life-changing. How do you choose just one? Studying abroad? Meeting my husband? Being a stepmom? Deciding to go back to church? Giving birth? So many moments - good and bad - have made me who I am today. But if I had to pick one and choose the most impactful life-changing moment it would be choosing to follow Jesus. I can't remember exactly when but at some point after becoming a stepmom a desire started growing in me to know God … [Read more...]

Giving Grace Even When Kids are Grumpy

Do you ever just feel grumpy? Do you forget to say please and thank you? Do you snap at the people you love? Confession: I do. Why is it then when the teenager is grumpy I get so bent out of shape about it? I don't like feeling this way. I need to ask God to change my heart. To help me give T grace. Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19 Rather than get frustrated when he is grumpy, I should listen … [Read more...]

Being Intentional as my Child Learns and Grows

With my little, this season is so much fun. He is learning so much and growing so quickly. This morning s during tummy time, he scooted forward so he could grab a toy that was just out of reach. He was getting his little legs under him and he hadn't done that before. It was very exciting. He loves to read and seriously has since we brought him home from the hospital. At just weeks old he would intently look at the book as we read it him. He'd grab the edges of the book even. Now he starts … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Stepmoms (School)

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 All throughout elementary school we'd hear how great T was at participating and answering questions when asked but that he always needed to be reminded to get his work out or stay on task. One year his long time neighbor was purposely sat next to him in class to … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Moms of Littles (Growing Up)

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52 Growing up happens so fast. When you're a kid though it seems to take forever! To me it seems like just yesterday my stepson was this funny, easy going little kid who played with legos and now he's this young man with a great sense of humor who loves video games. And my baby how is he five months old? He already has this personality that is larger than life! It's amazing to me that just this time last year we were … [Read more...]

Encouragement for Stepmoms (Trust)

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me... Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:1, 27 My husband and I parent very differently than his ex-wife. She has more of a free spirit style and we are more structured. This is hard to write without feeling like I'm judging or condemning. Basically sometimes T is allowed to do things that I feel may … [Read more...]
