A Million Little Reasons

There are a million little reasons why I support Compassion International. One reason is the little boy in Ghana that I sponsor and have seen grow and learn over the years thanks to Compassion. Years ago I heard some of my favorite bloggers like Emily P Freeman, The Nester, Kat Lee at Inspired to Action and Tsh at The Art of Simple talk/write about their experiences with Compassion. I could site the organization's efficiency and how many lives they've transformed but the experience these … [Read more...]

One Word 2016

Since 2009 people throughout the blogosphere have been choosing a word or even a phrase to guide their year. I last did this in 2014 and don't feel like I was very successful. But this year I'm feeling like I need to try again! So... My one word for the year is really a phrase: give it over to Jesus. God had already been trying to teach me how important it is to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5) Have you participated in One Word before? Did … [Read more...]

When Caitlin Jane was visiting her sponsored child in the Dominican Republic she was inspired to write "Sing Over Us." Caitlin's song and story are truly inspirational. And Compassion has asked "what inspired you to sponsor a child?" As a child I remember my Aunt sponsored children through Compassion International. I remember being intrigued by that and wanting to sponsor children as well. I don't know if I ever talked to my parents about that wish though.  As a senior in college, one of … [Read more...]

Twitterature – June (casual book reviews)

Linking up with Anne Bogel‘s #Twitterature over at Modern Mrs. Darcy; a place to share short, casual book reviews. Right now you can find on my bookshelf or nightstand… or coffee table… or Kindle: Good Clean Murder: A Plain Jane Mystery (A Plain Jane Mystery, a Cozy Christian Collection Book 1) Bible school student Jane cleans houses to make ends meet. But being independent brings big trials, like falling for a handsome professor, dealing with an obnoxious roommate, and then there's the … [Read more...]

Thirty Thousand

Save ChildrenThirty thousand. That is the number of children under age 5 who die every day from a preventable cause. That's like 30 large elementary schools disappearing from the face of the earth each and every day of the week, including weekends. What's stealing the future from so many children? Things like malaria, diarrhea, measles and unclean water. What's so hard to believe is that nearly every one of those deaths could be prevented for as little as $1 per child. We have issues in our … [Read more...]

Compassion Sunday

This coming Sunday is Compassion Sunday! It's that one day a year where churches take a Sunday to share the needs of the world's poorest children. It's a special day when sponsors come "face to face" with their sponsored child for the first time.  This year that special day is May 4th. But, you don't have to wait until May 4 - you can become a part of  the Compassion family today! I would encourage you to pray about becoming a sponsor for a child with Compassion. For less than a couple … [Read more...]

One Word

It took me a while but I finally have my word for 2014! I first heard of the idea last year but couldn't settle on a word. This year I was going to take part. And then January 1, 2014 came and went and I didn't t have a word. I didn't even really pray on it to be honest. I thought about it. I even started to pray but always went on to do something else. My mind was never where I needed it to be. Days went by and as I read one word posts on my favorite blogs I wistfully thought I want a word. But … [Read more...]

“Poverty is not necessarily an issue to solve; it is an opportunity to serve. As we go through each day, our heart’s cry should be, ‘Lord, where would you have me give, serve, and invest myself to bring hope to the poor?’”  — Orphan Justice author, Johnny CarrServe. As Americans we more often than not tend to serve ourselves. This is an extreme generalization so please do not be offend if you are American. I am. And I include myself in this group. Even as Believers we can be selfish. We … [Read more...]
