Today I'm linking up with Modern Mrs Darcy for Quick Lit a series of short reviews on what I've been reading. To continue with my Write 32 Days theme of encouragement, here's a few books that have been encouraging me lately. Simply Tuesday: Small-Moment Living in a Fast-Moving World Emily P Freeman writes to show her readers how to be content in the here and now, and as Emily says stop letting "hustle hijack your soul." I love this: "Let’s take back the long days and the short years … [Read more...]

Book Review and Blog Tour: Confessions of a Wonder Woman Wannabe

My name is Lisa and I’ve got a confession to make: I’m far from perfect. You're shocked I know. But it is true. Prior to becoming a wife and a stepmom, I was pretty sure I’d have it all together. Sometimes I still think this way, I guess.  And I love what Jenny Lee Sulpizio had to say about these sort of expectations in her book, Confessions of a Wonder Woman Wannabe. She says that her expectations consisted of a“well-orchestrated daily schedule” that included time at the gym, regular naps, … [Read more...]

Surprised By (step)Motherhood

Married by 25, first pregnancy at 27, and last pregnancy at 30. That was my plan. Well, God had a different plan in mind. My high school sweetheart and I split when I was 24 messing up my plan to get married. God's plan was much, much better (of course). I met the love of m life and we were married in 2007.  Almost seven years later … [Read more...]

Book Review: Wife After God

Daily devotionals really help me focus during my quiet time. However, being a wife and a (step)mom, I don't have a lot of time. I appreciate one that goes deep in easily digestible portions. I found that in Jennifer Smith's Wife After God. Each day is packed with inspiration and practical challenges. From day one you will learn that "God's purpose for my marriage is to reveal His love to the world." Isn't that what it's all about? Aren't we to live our lives as an example, to show the world … [Read more...]
