Forgiveness is one of the hardest things to do. Yet, we are called to forgive because God forgave us. It’s still hard. After all, we are human and we are messed up.

Being a stepmom and showing forgiveness your husband’s ex is at the top of the list of hard things to do.

She probably is hurting or angering your husband on a regular basis and making life difficult. You might even feel like she is selfish and not putting your stepchild first. She might make you mad and you might want to say mean things back to her. This is all hypothetical of course. 😉

The bible says do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your lips and do not let bitterness take hold of you.

We are to love as we are loved and forgive as we are forgiven. But how?

Ask God for help again and again.

Forgiveness doesn’t necessarily mean that you forget nor does it mean that you will become best friends with the person you are forgiving. Forgiveness means you free the person and you free yourself from anger and bitterness. Forgiveness means you love like Jesus and shine His light in the darkness. And couldn’t we all use a little more light?

Is there someone you need to forgive?

What’s one step you could take today towards forgiveness?

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
