Encouragement for Stepmoms (Don’t Worry)

cast your cares psalm 55:22

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22

Remember the song Don’t Worry Be Happy? So much easier said than done. Especially when it comes to our kids. We worry about everything from are they brushing their teeth to are they getting peer pressure to drink or do drugs. As a stepmom we might also be worrying about what’s going on at the other parents house. Is the kid doing his homework, is he watching to much tv, is his grandma saying bad things about my husband, his father? Does he know that we love him and are thinking about him? Does he know that we only want what’s best for him? Does he like his other house better? What kind of junk food is he eating or video games is he playing? Oh the list off worries goes on and on.

Stop. Just stop worrying. Worry doesn’t change things or fix them. Worry only makes you sick.

I know it’s not easy. First, pray. Give it to God. Trust Him to carry your burden of worry.

Next, do the best that you can for your kids while they are in your care but do not over compensate for what you feel the other parent is lacking. For example, you think the other parent let’s your stepkiddo watch too much tv, don’t ban tv all together just place limits and boundaries like you would regardless.

Finally, if you still struggle talk to a trusted friend or a counselor.

Let’s Pray

Father God,

I’m really struggling as a stepmom right now. You know exactly what is going on and how I feel. I’m worried about my stepchild. I can’t let go of my fear. So I am coming to you Lord. I am giving my fear and worry to You. I’m reminded that You will work things together for our good and that even though I love my stepchild so much, You love him so much more. I will not worry but give all my concerns to you Lord. Thank you for being there and holding me up.
